Creative Writing (Jan. 19)

I feel very depressed and pensative because a wonderful man passed away. The sad, gloomy spectators dressed in black hovered over the count as the Pope, dressed in golden picturesque robes, and a priest mourned as they buried him. An angel rose from above, welcoming his spirit to heaven. The Virgin Mary sat next to the throne of Jesus who waited for the spirit of the count. The angels and the people...

Death may not appear as horrifying as one might think. As one can see in El Greco’s painting, “El entierro del Conde de Orgaz”, Jesus welcomed the soul of the recently deceased count with His arms open wide. As much as God accepted him, his friends did not want him to die. They reached for his now dead body, with gloomy, long faces of mourning. The Pope and the priest, dressed in wide, formal, golden robes, prayed for his soul and prepared him for burial.
Just to the right of Jesus, sat the Virgin Mary, looking down upon the spirits and
observing the soul of the count rise slowly to Heaven, guided by an angel. Peter, holding the keys to the kingdom, stood wisely watching the new citizen of paradise arrive....
